I’m stepping away for a week to work on my next book, a memoir, which has a lot about the 1970’s. While I’m away I thought I’d share a couple of gems that combine the perspective of that decade with last week’s theme of the difficulty of predicting the future correctly. Enjoy.

In this ABC interview from 1974, science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke makes the bold claim that one day computers will allow people to work from home and access their banking records. But there’s one thing he got wrong— all those future workers would not be exclusively male! The biggest societal shift of the last 50 years was apparently beyond his wildest imagining.
