This is a great observation. I too refuse pro-bono from commercial enterprises. I once had Goldman Sachs ask if I could do a pro bono for their women's network. Early days, but... I'm doing a follow up because I got so much response to this. As always, most of the response is in email, rather than comments on the platform. Thanks for being a commenter!

So, so true Sally! It's constant, and everything you accept becomes acceptable. I refuse pro-bono for any commercial enterprise, especially women's networks who think you are free because we are in a common cause. Rather than thinking that gender balanced workplaces are a huge performance enhancer... thanks for this wise reminder.
